Urban Agriculture Holiday Celebration - December 7, 2017

Tonight from 5-7 pm at Station 20 West - 1120 20th St W 

This will be a come and go event with presentations at 5:30.

  • "lightening" 3 minute presentations from 10 urban farmers and organizations at 5:30
  • Free local food grown right here in Saskatoon
  • Learn about how you can support more local food growing and selling in Saskatoon

Osler area farmers start Local Food Trail

Osler area farms are working together to increase awareness of the wide variety of food grown and produced in the area and available to the public.  The Local Food Trail - Osler is a project that is sponsored by the Saskatoon Food Council, RM of Corman Park and the Town of Osler.  Working with a group of local farms, a logo for the project has been developed and a searchable map is available at localfoodtrail.ca

City Council committee approves tax rebates for growing food on vacant lots

On Monday, May 30 the Saskatoon Food Council coordinated a presentation to the Standing Policy Committee on Planning, Development and Community Service – PDCS.   Speakers included representatives from the Food Council, Chain Reaction Urban Farm , the University of Saskatchewan, CHEP Good Food, Roof Top Gardeners and the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.

Rooftop garden providing food for University of Saskatchewan students

A rooftop garden project promoting sustainable agricultural practices and urban farming is sprouting on campus this summer.

“This is the other face of agriculture—urban agriculture,” said Grant Wood, a professor in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources.

Tomatoes, hot peppers and leafy greens (including lettuce, kale and spinach) will soon be popping up on the roof of the phytotron, a sunny, triangle-shaped area visible from the above-ground walkway between the biology and agriculture buildings.
